The history of Maui Jim plays out like the laid back image this classic sunglass brand personifies. Jim Richards, a fisherman from Maui, started selling sunglasses to tourists at the local resort pools back in the 1980’s. From those humble beginnings, Maui Jim became the largest independently owned sunglass manufacturer in the world before selling to the luxury brand Kering in 2022. Their continued commitment to using quality materials with timeless designs has solidified their place as one of the top sunglass makers in the world.

Founded in 1891 by Daniel Swarovski. Daniel patented a precision crystal cutting machine that allowed for the mass production of crystals. His goal was to create “a diamond for everyone.” Being talented at cutting crystals gave them a leg up in eyewear and the company created its first eyeglass design in 1935. Today, the Swarovski eyewear collection is generously adorned with the brilliant crystals that have become synonymous with luxury and bling!

The Yves Saint Laurent brand burst onto the fashion scene in the 1960’s after Saint Laurent honed his
craft under the tutelage of Christian Dior. The new fashion house became an icon in the fashion world

Dr. O’Daniel is also a 1983 graduate of the Illinois College Optometry. He met his wife Lori during this period. Lori, a Chicago native, became an integral part of his practice (and life!) shortly thereafter.

He moved to Scottsdale in 1986 to begin practicing inside LensCrafters. In 1990 Dr. O’Daniel opened the Scottsdale LensCrafters, and he also presided as its director of Optometric services.

Dr. O’Daniel became an Optometrist because of his love and passion for photography, physics, and desire provide patients with the ability to see the world more clearly. As a licensed optometrist, Dr. O’Daniel provides complete eye care services for the surrounding communities ages seven and up.

Dr. O’Daniel has had a working relationship with both Dr. Fuller and McPhellan for over two decades. He has served as past director for the Arizona Optometric Association, and past President of the Central Arizona Optometric Society. In January, 2018 Dr. O’Daniel decided to join Tatum Eye Care, the premier Eye Care Center in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

Dr. O’Daniel’s goal is simple: Provide Excellent Eye Care, treat patients as family, and treat everyone honestly and fairly!

Dr. Wong provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages, from pediatrics through seniors. She has a special interest in the management of medical eye conditions including glaucoma, eye infections, dry eye and diabetic retinopathy.

Outside of the office, Dr. Wong enjoys running, going to the beach, rooting for the Bruins, and spending time with her husband and three daughters.

The Medmont Corneal Topographer takes a highly accurate topographical reading of the surface of the cornea. This aids in the diagnosis of corneal irregularities and disease and is essential in the process of custom designing Rigid Gas Permeable and Scleral contact lenses.

The Marco ARK-1a Autorefractor allows us to accurately diagnose refractive errors through the use of advanced digital technology delivered on-screen in live time. With the ARK-1a, we can write the most accurate prescriptions for conditions like near or far-sightedness and astigmatism.

Optos retinal scan technology greatly reduces the need for dilation. In fact, its picture is over 4x wider than standard imaging techniques through an undilated pupil. This means we can evaluate the health of the back of your eye without those pesky drops and all that prolonged irritation.

The Marco Ultra M2 Slit Lamp lets us view internal and external ocular structures under intense magnification… including the cornea, lens, vitreous, retina and optic nerve. This technology helps us diagnose dry eye, cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma, among other conditions and diseases.

Haag- Streit’s “Octopus” is full-threshold visual field tester. It allows us to diagnose and manage eye diseases that result in visual field loss… including glaucoma, tumors, vascular disease, retinal disease and ocular inflammatory disease.

Topcon Maestro’s Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) takes high resolution images of each retinal layer to measure things like health and thickness, without any invasive tools or irritation. We can use this data to diagnose and treat various retinal diseases, including glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration.

The Tomey Keratometer-Topographer allows us to accurately diagnose refractive errors through the use of advanced digital technology delivered on-screen in live time. With this technology, we can write the most accurate prescriptions for conditions like near or far-sightedness and astigmatism.

The Humphrey FDT visual field testing machine allows us to perform a quick initial screen for any defects in your field-of-vision. If the FDT detects any defect present, we will then run a slower, but much more thorough test with our Octopus full threshold visual field analyzer for a diagnosis.

ICare tonometers allow us to take a pressure measurement in seconds without an irritating, annoying puff of air. These are so quick and painless that we can even use them on children’s eyes! However, for you traditionalists who still like the excitement of the puff (???), we also have the industry’s softest air puff tonometer we can use in place of ICare.

Sometimes. Normally, medical plans do not cover routine eye care for glasses and contacts.  Vision insurance is designed for routine eye care and for the purchase of glasses and contacts. However, if we are addressing a medical problem like diabetes, dry eye, allergies or red eyes, then we will be able to bill your medical insurance for the exam portion.  Your insurance might cover both, in part. If you are not sure, we recommend bringing both your vision and medical cards to your appointment, and we will help you determine what is best to use.
